About
Amanda Coop Psychologist
Hi, I’m Amanda – a psychologist, parent, and fellow human doing my best to meet people where they are and walk alongside them with warmth, compassion, and curiosity.
I didn’t always work in psychology. I started out in law and publishing, then spent several years as a full-time parent – a chapter of life that was deeply meaningful, sometimes chaotic, and endlessly eye-opening. It was through this experience (and the many learning curves it brought) that I became drawn to the world of psychology – especially in understanding how we grow, connect, and thrive as individuals and in relationships.
As someone diagnosed with autism later in life, I bring both professional knowledge and lived experience to my practice. I know what it’s like to feel out of step, to camouflage or mask your needs, and to finally discover language that makes things make sense. I’m passionate about neurodiversity-affirming practice and helping people of all ages feel safe, seen, and understood – exactly as they are.
My style is relational, collaborative, and gently curious. I believe therapy should feel like a real conversation – one that makes space for vulnerability, insight, growth, and the occasional laugh. Whether I’m working with a child, a teen, a parent, or an entire family system, I approach each session with respect for the uniqueness of your story and a deep commitment to supporting meaningful, sustainable change.
When I’m not working, you’ll find me:
-
Passionately supporting Collingwood (yes – even while living and working in Geelong, and yes – it’s a whole identity)
-
Talking excitedly about the nervous system, attachment theory, or both
-
Rehashing the latest episode of The Real Housewives of... wherever
-
And spending time in my wonderfully grounding, restorative garden
Because even psychologists need a bit of dirt under their nails, a reality TV distraction, and something to fiercely cheer for on the weekend.
